DylanListed is developing a jobs and entrepreneurship program to be piloted in the DFW Metroplex. The purpose of the initiative is to train interested and qualified participants with disabilities in successfully operating an ice cream vending truck and selling ice cream from the truck. The program includes training in entrepreneurship as some participants will choose to become ice cream mobile vending business owners. Once fully implemented in DFW and beyond, the program is expected to significantly expand the impact and reach of the mobile ice cream vending industry in the US.
The idea for this program was born when Dylan attended a seminar at the 2015 annual convention of the International Association of Ice Cream Vendors (IAICDV). Dylan heard at that seminar that the industry desired to greatly expand its recruitment of highly trained, committed operators of ice cream trucks. Dylan told the attendees: “I can solve your recruitment problem. I believe I have that highly committed talent pool that you want.”
The employer partners for the inaugural program are Wells Blue Bunny, ice cream manufacturer and distributor based in LeMars, Iowa and Yumi Ice Cream Company, Inc., a Dallas, Texas-based frozen foods distribution company and a master distributor of Wells Blue Bunny ice cream products in Texas. Yumi, with more than 30 years of experience in world class frozen foods distribution, provides training to program participants in operating an independent ice cream vending business from an ice cream truck based on best practices. Wells Blue Bunny provides brand expertise, industry expertise and the state-of-the art design for the ice cream trucks to be used in the program.
DylanListed’s role is to administer and oversee the program, recruit qualified program participants and to secure program partners, namely non-profits who serve individuals with disabilities (IWDs). The initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship skills, create gainful employment for successful trainees and also offers a branding opportunity for the non-profit partners in the program.
“To Be Announced” on a later date.
